Jane Inglis (nee Andrews) was the daughter of Harmon Andrews, sister of Billy, Gracie and Ralph, wife of Mr. Inglis and one of Anne's friends and classmates. Jane was born in 1865 in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, to Harmon Andrews and his wife. She was raised along with her older brother Billy and her best friend Ruby Gillis. Years later, her younger siblings, Gracie and Ralph were born.

Jane attended Avonlea school in September 1871 along with Ruby, Diana, Charlie, Moody and Gilbert.
